Obituary For David Ian Webber

David Ian Webber, aged 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday 24th August, after a month-long battle with staphylococcus aureus septicaemia. Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

**** A Passion for Entrepreneurship

Dave was a successful entrepreneur with a passion for buying and selling second-hand goods. He had a keen eye for bargains and enjoyed spending his Sunday mornings scouring the classifieds for treasures. His knack for finding hidden gems led to many successful deals over the years, including vehicles, boats, and obscure items such as mobile concrete mixers! His entrepreneurial ventures included owning video stores, a games arcade and "The Keyhole" - a decades-long community staple in Diss, UK. These varied ventures mostly took place in parallel with his full-time career as a printer, showcasing his ability to balance multiple responsibilities effectively.

**** A Career in Printing

Dave's career in printing was long and fulfilling. Despite becoming a technophobe as he aged, he kept up with the latest trends and technologies throughout his career, embracing the significant shift from hot metal typesetting to Macintosh desktop publishing in the late 1980s. His adaptability and commitment to his craft were hallmarks of his professional life.

**** A Legacy of Service

One of Dave's proudest accomplishments was serving as a marine police reservist during the 1970s Rhodesian bush war. His dedication to his country and bravery in the face of danger will always be remembered.

**** Adventures with Andrea

Dave and his second wife, Andrea, shared a love for adventure. Together, they built a house at Binga along the Zambezi Valley, near Lake Kariba. Despite facing numerous challenges, including contracting malaria during a supply run and surviving a harrowing accident, they persevered and created lasting memories while boating and fishing on Lake Kariba with their son, Colin.

**** A Close Bond with Ian

Dave was particularly close to his youngest son, Ian, from his marriage to Kathy. They shared a deep love for camping and fishing along the Orange River in Namibia, creating cherished memories that Ian hopes to recreate with his own children. Kathy remembers Dave as a gentle, easy-going person with a fine sense of humour. He could spark a conversation with anyone, despite being completely comfortable in his own company.

**** Finding Love with Linda

After four marriages, Dave found his soulmate in Linda, his widow. They were together for twenty-seven wonderful years, proving that true love can be found at any stage in life. Linda's daughters, Maree and Lana, together with grandchildren, Mikayla, Josh, Jacob and Abigail were incredibly fond of him and provided unwavering support as he aged.

**** Remembering Dave

Dave will be remembered for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering determination. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Dave, Dad, Granddad... You will be dearly missed.

Dear Dad, I will be forever grateful for the few days we got to spend together at Gt. Yarmouth this past June. We couldn't have known you only had eight weeks left to live, but we parted with mutual (and rare) "Love You's" to top off that wonderful shared final experience. During my adult years I harboured a lot of resentment toward you over one detail: that I never got to speak to you unless I initiated contact. That resentment has now faded and been replaced with long forgotten positive memories... - I was doing some DIY the other day and remembered the tool box you assembled for me when I was way too young to know what to do with it. I treasured it and wish I knew what happened to it. - In hindsight I realise that your great sense of humour shaped my own. - You taught me how to be happy in my own company. - You taught me how to play chess, which I then taught to Ethan (whose skill eclipsed both of ours!) - You instilled in me a love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures it provides. - You taught me to admire the female form! Although I learned monogamy all on my own. 😉 I will miss you Dad. Happy sailing. Love Col
