As a friend of Jan's, l have been lucky enough to be able to stay at John's when l visited Liverpool. He was a such a gentleman and generous. He always made sure l had anything that l needed. .l also remember fondly sharing Christmas with him at Jan's boat, where he was full of life and really enjoyed the celebrations. The sound of his strong laughter will be much missed. Xx

I am so sorry to hear that John is no longer with us and I shall certainly miss history cheery 'hellio' and wave. Down the years or paths have crossed on New Years Eve as we each welcomed the New Year into our homes. Calling to each other and raising a glass. Sadly as the years have passed the numbers outside have diminished until it was usually John and me. This New Year will feel very strange but i shall still raise my glass to John and Sue.

Dear Jan and family, The news of John's death was such a shock. He was a larger than life character on our bit of Rosedale and it seemed that he would always be there, sitting in the sun and chatting to passers by. We will miss him for that. End of an era. RIP John. Our thoughts are with you, Jan and all the family at this difficult time. Anne and Jim

John, you where a lovely neighbour. You always took the time to chat to us all and always checked in to see how everyone was. When I think of you, I often picture you sitting in the front garden enjoying the sun. I will miss hearing your voice and laughter. Deepest condolences to Jan & family. RIP John. Love, Jenny & family xXx

Dear Jan and family. The sudden passing of John is so sad and unexpected and we offer our sincerest condolences to you all. If I may, I'd like to share my thoughts and say how proud of you your Mum would have been to see how you never gave up on your promise to her to look after John. Those close to you know of the difficult challenges you have faced with John over the years since she passed and how frail he had become. You have worked tirelessly to help him have the life he wanted, at home with freedom rather than restricted in residential care. Your final nod to Mum was that crucial phone call you made to him during his final moments. More than a coincidence I think. I'm sure the gathering you have arranged will be a lovely and fitting tribute to John. Chris & Dave Pellow
